SVT/ABM trade??? Issues

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently traded my Ampeg SVT-II for a Ashdown ABM500RC EVOII which was listed by a member here who's name will not be disclosed.

I wanted to trade the SVTII and I came across a British made ABM here and I happened to like that sound. I traded, I shipped the head in its case and that cost a little over $120 because I quote the person at the mailing place "Its in the middle of nowhere". So I pay extra to ship it after a little delay (which was a good thing i guess, you will see soon why that was) because finding a box with no store that makes boxes in your area is a pain.

He shipped his Ashdown a week before mine, i said that i was having a hard time finding a box for the big and heavy SVTII, so after i shipped it I find out what Parcel Post was, and that is the cheapest and slowest way of shipping something as I was told.

So I guess waiting would have been a good thing as I recieved the ABM 2 weeks after he shipped it. If I had shipped the SVT Right away I would have been ampless for two weeks.

I then recieve the ABM, I am excited and everything, I open it up and fire it up. It sounds great....except it is a PRC (Chinese) made ABM. Not the British made ABM he advertised, I told him it as chinese made amp with his explanation being that when he bought it from BassNW they sent him a Chinese one instead of a UK one. Uhm after that I was offered no compensation for the huge difference in shipping (I read the shipping tag and it said $30...) and the fact that it wasnt what he described.

Now it has been at least a month and I havent said a word but now as I look into it i think i got ripped.

What should i do?

Suck it up and learn from your mistake.
You really have no recourse now.
If you can get him to trade back(fat chance) thats all you have .
Even at that, I'm sure he ain't going to pay $120 for shipping just to trade you back.
You did say you liked how it sounds.
Just be happy I guess.

Negative feedback if he doesn't accomodate the request (trade back or compensation) to let the rest of us know not to deal with that in the future.

I dont want to trade back, I never said i wanted to.
Not just the shipping the fact that he traded me a cheaper version of the amp i wanted.

It sounds good, yet I am looking at getting a LMII.

Somehow I don't thinkgetting negative feedback is going to sway him.

Wow I found the thread. It does say UK made.

You are about 200 bucks lop sided on your trade.

Give him a chance to do the right thing. Then if he doesn't, put "_____ is a liar and a deadbeat" in your sig with a link to this thread. That is an extremely low thing to do, and if it were me, everyone on here would already know his name, address and phone number.

Hopefully it works out for you. If not, definitely don't hide someone who was dishonest from the rest of us. Post a link to the sale ad in this thread and give negative feedback. Don't be nice about it. Others need to know.

retort

Hey guys, this is me he is talking about. I have no intension of hiding anything. I love talkbass because it's small community where shady deals are dealt with. Here is what I pm'd back to SVT.

Yeah, I saw the post. Everyone on here can look up the trade and now it makes me look like I tried to pull a fast one on you. Our terms were that we would cover our own shipping. If you we not happy with that, you didn't have to do the trade. I know that I thought the ashdown was a UK made one when it wasn't. You said that was fine and that you still were fine with the trade. My RPM preamp was the one made in the UK. That was a mistake but it still doesn't make the deal lop-sided. The SVT is a great amp but as you said, is asthetically in rough shape and would make it a tougher sell if I wanted to do that later on. I have a solid reputation on TB and this really makes me upset.

1)You never indicated that you felt the trade or shipping was unfair. 2)You still seemed fine afterward 3) You had the ashdown before the ampeg was sent out and could have just shipped it back to me 4) I could have been left without an amp to gig with as well since it took such a long time to find a box to ship it in 5) my amp went out when we agreed to send them both out 6) I never gave you any hassle about the shipping time

I am sure that you are a really stand up guy and I do not want any problems with you or anyone but I am not going to give any type of refund for shipping when that is what we had agreed on and that it was probably two months ago. I "may" consider trading you back as a measure of good will bit will not cover shipping on a 2 month old deal.

There, now it's out in the open. This isn't a fight that I want but, I won't have anyone thinking that I pulled a fast one on another tb'er. kringle77

You know ,this whole conversation should have taken place in private. Not on a open forum.
Just my 2 cents.

conversation

Yes, I agree. The conversation moved on without me being contacted at all. One way or another, it will be solved. Man, this site is kind of like a getaway for me. Usually.

Scratch the closing of this thread, I was recently contacted by someone who has dealt with this person.

Now I will post his message to me but I will not disclose his name, do not ask me for it.

Here is a quote from the message, "The issue I had was a couple things. One was with getting information from him. The other was actual full disclosure, and that went hand-in-hand with the request for information.
I asked questions (more than once) about an item he advertised for sale, he didn't anwer some of the questions. I went ahead and bought from him (thinking I was taking a chance), and found out after receipt of shipment that modifications had been made, which was one of the things I had clearly asked about.
So, in my book, he was deliberately evasive. Now, after your experiance (which, IMO, seems clearly misleading, but that's me) I really gotta wonder about his character."
