Would you do the album version or the single version? I'd think the album version would be better-suited for a hard rock crowd.

I'd be surprised if anyone under 40 recognized a Sweet tune. I say do it.

Edit: They did make music for 14 year old girls, but I was 12 at the time so from my perspective, they pretty much rocked.

Yeah, the record company kind of marketed them to the 14 year olds, and probably even more so to the girls. For what it's worth, two Sweet albums were among the first albums I ever bought and I'll still admit to liking a bunch of their songs.

Besides, if your job is to get the ladies dancing remember that the 14 year old girls who listened to the way back when have grown up and some of them might be in the club that night. Go for it. If it doesn't go over with that particular crowd then don't play it again for them. But then again maybe you'll be able to pull it out of retirement if you play to a crowd that it's better suited to.

Hi.

Sweet is cool.

Well IOW almost everything the producers Chinn/Chapman created was cool. IIRC none of the acts couldn't quite make it on their own.

They did this weird reunion gig that might have been a part of a larger tour late 80's/early 90's that had the Rubettes, Sweet and Suzi Quattro. That was a weird bunch of bands at that time

Regards
Sam

Extremely sad and tragic story - read their bio on Wikipedia.

The 45rpm single of "Ballroom Blitz" was one of the first real rock and roll records I ever had. That song rocks! "Love Is Like Oxygen" rocks my world to this day. Particularly the prog-rock 9 minute version with the "Fanfare For The Common Man" based section. I've always wanted to play that song in a cover band.

FANTASTIC drummer!!!!!

Cool glam rock from the 70s.

We play a few Sweet covers, including Love is like Oxygen - complete with the middle section. Usually leaves the crowd a bit confused, but it's fun to play.
