SX Question: Banjos?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just saw that SX had some nicely priced banjos on their acoustics page. Can any of you guys vouch for these? I've got a friend who is looking to get a banjo, and I know SX has pretty good service and great prices. If anyone could give some feedback, it would be much appreciated. Also, I noticed the mandolins, Ukes, and other cool instruments. If anyone has experience, I'd love to know how these play.

A good friend of mine has the six string (tuned like a guitar) model. He had great fingerpicking skills on acoustic, and they translated very well for him.

Build quality was similar to the SX electric guitar line (the acoustics, I'm a little more wary of). There were two cosmetic blemishes out of the box, but it ain't a museum piece. It got more scuffed after just two gigs.

As far as setup requirements/action, I don't feel qualified to say, since I don't know how a good, "real" banjo is supposed to feel. But again, my buddy had no problem ripping it up after a quick tune-up.

That's good to hear! That seems to be the exact situation I'm in. I plan on buying one as a gift for a friend. He plays guitar and wants a banjo, so it's essentially perfect for him. Thanks for the input.

Anyone else? Come on TB, don't let me down!
