synth bass - anyone out there ever do it?

I realize this is outside the mainstream for TB, but because I can play keys as well as bass, the band has inquired if I could do at least a few tunes on keys. Of course, since I'm the bass player, I'd have to play bass with my left hand while playing a keyboard with my right. I don't know if this is workable, but I'd like to see what's out there. I'm thinking - a relatively inexpensive synth or special purpose keyboard that would only play bass, three octaves would be fine, and no bells or whistles other than it can play bass. I'd stack this on a double rack with a Nord2 organ underneath.

After you're done shooting me, any suggestions?

what're you implying?

You can definitely do this. I've done it before, but just with a regular full-key keyboard (doing the bassline w/ my left hand). So I don't have any specific equipment recommendations, sorry.

ha - I don't mean that many of you can't play keys, only that's it's a topic other than BG or DB.

A single splittable keyboard would be fine too. I've never seen one that would do what I'd like, but suggestions on that are welcome as well.
