| Synth Bass w/Keys build? Any ideas?

I have an idea and wondering if anyone has tried it yet. I want to incorporate synth bass into a dance band. I think the currently available Keytars look cheezy (although functional) and hiding behind a keyboard is even cheezier...Midi converter boxes don't track as well as I'd like...Synth Pedals are limited in the sounds, and not very upgradeable.
SO, I want to take a rather large yet cheap bass body (suggestions?) route it out and place a small midi controller keyboard with very few assignable knobs (suggestions?) in the space (flush with the body)...then paint the keyboard the same color as the body of the bass to disguise the keyboard. It would still have a bridge, a neck, tuners...etc...use a MIDI cable and a USB bus power cable coming in where the 1/4" Jack is running to a bass synth module or micro synth (suggestions?) on my pedal board.
The point is that from any amount of distance it would look as if I'm playing bass, but you would hear great modeled vintage synth sounds/arpeg./triggers
In my head, this sounds feasible and a good idea, but execution might be a different story. I'm really trying to find a solution to a problem I don't want to have....playing synth bass... but in this market, the pros outweigh the cons...and no, hiring a keyboard player is not the answer.
Thinking about using Dave Smith's Morpho as my module...or just pro-tools....any ideas? Suggestions? Just want to poke fun? |
