I'm waiting for my Dell laptop and I just realized that instead of buying a synth, I can get some software and a keyboard. Are there generic keyboards that I can buy that work with software or is it all software/controller specific? |

| | | They are generic. You plug them in and they look like a midi keyboard to your software. Some of them will extra knobs and buttons may have templates that work with some software, for example transport keys to act like a tape recorder, and a set of faders for the software. The dell is probably not going to have a great sound card, so some kb's come with audio interfaces also. You can even record and sample with them.
M-Audio audio/midi interfaces
Ederol PCR-1
Alesis Photon
But this line-6 looks to coolest looking: http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=3230
but it's not out yet
