In other news, Hella and The Mars Volta still suck.
Hella just sucks. It sounded like one long ass drum solo...
The Volta just has to much going on to sound good live, unfortunately. I still dig their CD's though. They only played 4 songs... but damnit, they were long. They said "this is our last tune". That song lasted 25 minutes... everyone got pissed after 10
System of a Down rocked my socks. They are hilarious. Shavo doesn't even play half the time... he just screws around with the fans. He has a mirror pick-guard and was reflecting light beams at people. Silly bugger.
People say they suck live... I disagree. Daron's singing goes down the toilet, but I think that is because he realizes it is ridiculous, so he has fun with it.
On "Revenga", I thought the recording had atleast 2 drum tracks, but the drummer played all the parts. He's crazy.
The best sounding songs were BYOB, Sugar, Ariels, Prisons, and Violent Pornography.
Yes. I will be seeing them again. |

Yeah, people say Mars Volta are awesome live... I don't think I'd pay good money to see them.
No thoughts on SOAD. I noticed the lead singer (not Daron) sounded really tame on SNL. The first album that guys voice was craaaaaaaaazy. Mike patton influence, for sure, but still crazy. Now he just seems to sing. I'm sure he's better "on his turf"

SUGAR!!! SUGAR!!! SUGAR!!!SUGAR!!!
Maybe even that guy behind me yelling at the mars volta to get off the stage....
I was kinda bummed to see Hella with vocals, another guitar and bass. Usually they just have a guitar and drums. On their records they have big warnings stating that they are not for everyone.
This guy in front of us didn't know who was playing except for system of a down.
I thought all the bands did a good job. System played their ass off along with everyone else.
But it was completly an odd bill. There were 3 types of people going to that show. System fans that would hate mars volta, mars volta fans that would hate system of a down and people that wanted to see both bands play and equally liked them (I'm not including Hella only because they have their own thing going on).
I didn't like people complaining and heckling other bands. Completly rude.
Such different bands.
Maybe if you're lucky next time System will play Sugar for 5 hours straight and have no one else play with them.

When Volta played, nothing except the drums were easily recognizable. It was horrible sounding... Maybe it was the sound guy... but it sounded like crap. Volta is better on CD. |

Hella just blew, sounded like every room in guitar center all wanking at the same time.

Last time they played for 3 and a half hours straight....rediculousness...just the 2 of them.

When I saw them I could hear everything with ease.
I think I heard the drummer fart a couple times. |

The Mars Volta sounded terrible here too. Anything high pitched (vocals, guitar, keys, woodwinds) turned into an annoying screech with no definiton.

Mars Volta is a hard band to get into, I personally love them, Live and on CD. I dont mind the jam sessions, its just it can get annoying with Omar wanking all the time. Now if Juan showed off his insane speed and used his mass of effects more, The jam sessions would probably be even more interesting.

By far the best was in " when they only had their first album . I think they've slowly been falling off since "steal this album" but then again it was all songs that didnt make the cut for the first 2.
I think mezmerize (and porobably hypnotize) isnt that good because Daron had too much control over singing , song writing and writing the music as well. They're over doing everything in my opinion.
Just go back to basics. |

Just go back to basics. | Ex, toxicity is my fave, but mezmerize kicks ass too. But, I agree daron should leave the singing to the one that can actually sing.....serj.

Tickets were too expensive for a band like that. Heck, I paid 15 bucks to see In Flames in San Fran and they were on tour from another country! I think SOAD tickets were something like $40? I'm sorry, but that's too much for me. They're not music hall-of-famers yet. |

They are the ONLY band I have heard do anything original, or interesting in metal since Pantera's first three.
I paid $55 per ticket after ticketbastard charges, one for myself, and one for a friend, $10 PARKING, and another $20 or so for gas. Worth every penny, and can't wait to catch them again.

Wow, who pissed in your cheerios?
Mike made a valid arguement to why he didn't care for them live and even stated that he likes them on disc....and apparently quite a few people agree. Not saying your opinion is wrong...but you could have chosen a more mature way to get your point across.
Chill out dude.
....was I just defending mike?

If my band was headlining a tour I would make sure that every band at every gig sounded as good as possible.
I don't want other people to look bad to make me look better...thats gonna bore the crowd. I want them to be rocked every second that they're there.

Just go back to basics. | Daron usually writes most of the songs. He's had a large input on lyrics since the first album. His singing has gotten alot better and its a nice contrast to Serj's voice. I admit he could pull it back a little bit but it still sounds alright.
