Question Taking a trip to Dallas June 3rd...

Taking a trip to Dallas June 3rd... any suggestions on good music shops in town, I will be going with a couple of buddy's of mine. One plays the drums, one keyboard, and the other guitar... and of course I play bass. I wanted some feedback from fellow TBers that live in the area or know it well. We will be staying at the "Holiday Inn Select DALLAS-NORTH (GALLERIA AREA)" , It is off of the LBJ Freeway in North Dallas. Any good music shops in the area that we could hit that would appease all of the group and not just part.

I would love to check out a GC or two if I could I know those will have most everything to play around on or with... But I would like one with a good bass selection myself, I have never been to a GC before but I have heard that some have better bass gear selection that others. Any suggestions folks?

If its not GC's than if other the other stores have a website where I could get directions and or print a map from my hotels address that would be grreeeaaaattttt!

Any information would be awesome and if possible if any fellow TBers can get out on that day and meet up that would be sweet. Thanks in advance I know someone is bound to know of some killer places I could check out while I am in town.

Peace,

There is actually a GC within 3 miles of the Galleria. West of the tollway on 635 there is a GC on the right side with actually some cool basses. Go to the GC Webpage and use the store locator. The only other store worth going to in Dallas is Larry Morgan Music in Garland however their bass selection is sometimes great and other times really poor, look up there webpage as well.

You should PM Pete Skjold and see if you can drop by his custom bass shop in Lewisville, about 10-15 miles north of where you will be. I have yet to do so even though I live about 35 miles north (will be out of town while you are here, unfortunately) but I know he is glad to have folks as long as he knows you are coming. I own a Skjold 6 and they are smokin' basses.

Pete is a TB'er and a fine luthier, if you don't know of him already. Do a search on Skjold in the basses section.

You could also PM Juneau here - he's down at Pete's shop all the time.

Hey Evan, ya Id hit the GC right near there on LBJ as mentioned. And yeah, if you'd like to come out to Pete's shop, shoot me a PM and we can see about working that out possibly. There is a Brook Mayes two buddies of mine work at down the street from Pete's shop too, so you could even drop off the other two fellas while you visit the shop so they arent bored hehe. That GC on LBJ actually has a Skjold in their bass room, as well as several other higher end things.

I third (so far) the vote for that GC off of the Tollway. I've been in there a few times through the years and always found them to have nicer basses than the average GC. In fact, I think my lust for a Zon began there, and I still haven't addressed it...
