Talk Bass or Play Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Before I got addicted to Call of Duty 4 for PC (Mulit-Player) I used to play my Bass 3 hrs. a night. I'd do much needed practicing, putting together new runs and fills, and work out Bass parts on songs (even all of ABB's Mountain Jam) for the fun of it. My Basses were getting lonely so even though it was hard, I quit COD cold turkey. Now I play only every now and then and not for hours on end. Seems like I'm getting addicted to TalkBass now and even though it's really great interacting with fellow Bass players this way, I'm gonna limit my time to sitting down only once a day for a bit and read the most pertinent and interesting sounding posts I really do love playing my Bass and I have to learn (mostly brush up on) a bunch of new songs for a new band. I know you'll miss my sarcastic and caustic personality that's portrayed in some of my posts. I will surely check in to access the valuable information that's gained by all your knowledge and experiences.

Yeah, I got MW2 and Black Ops and they were fun for a bit, but for me no where near as addicting as COD4.

I TalkBass better than I PlayBass. I practice more at the former.

After a while posts sound the same. Thousands and thousands of bass players who hopefully play better than their abysmal ability with using "search."

In reality, you'll have less misinformation to unlearn by backing off for a while.

Only a tiny fraction of advice on gear forums is accurate or meaningful (aside from a few highly technical pro forums).

Still, forums are less egregious wastes of your life than video games.

PLAY OUT -- RECORD -- ALL ELSE IS WANKERY. [Feel free to use as sig ]

I'm with you. I'm only researching for when I do get around to practicing.

COD4 was the last good COD game (and COD3 sucked). And yes, I also TalkBass and PlayGames much more than I PlayBass

Here's the thing. Maybe this is just me, but playing bass is so much more fun when you play with others. So it totally makes sense if you slip away when your forced to only practice at home by yourself. I usually find myself playing more acoustic guitar then bass when I'm by myself. But I'm sure we can all agree that there is no better feeling then rocking the low end in a band!

I have to watch it, too-I'll only swoop in every now and then, since my playing/teaching schedule can top 60+ hours a week. I really have to watch the TB app (and Facebook) on my phone while I'm on the couch watching TV with the spouse. I can get busted for that quite easily...

Halo singlehandedly annihilated my social life. In a year I played 350 hours of it, and that's just time recorded when I was in a match. That's 14 DAYS. I would play around 3 hours a day.

Too much Call of Duty for me also. My wife actually said I had disconnected from the family. She doesn't mind when I play my Bass for hours on end though (she understands because she is a guitarist and singer).
