Yes, here it is, the official International Dysfunctional Idiots Of Talkbass (I.D.I.O.T.) club...
Ok, here's how we play the game...
You're qualified to join the club if you've done something ridiculous, frivolous, or even just plain foolish and it's related to your bass playing somehow. That can be anything from buying/selling bass equipment you never should have, such as purely due to GAS indulgence, to something nutty you did on a gig. I figure most TB'ers qualify on GAS suffrage alone, but time will tell... if this club gets any traffic, anyway.
To Join, you just need to state how you qualified, and it works best if you speak painfully honestly. Then I assign you a number, and you have the honor (or the cojones, as the case may be) to use that number in your sig if you so choose.
Only one rule. NO FLAMING! This club is for FUN ONLY! Folks that have the guts to post here have full diplomatic immunity. Period. Consoling and commiserating are fine... just no blasting.
For example, if someone wants to say they're an idiot for purchasing a J bass with a figured top, let them. Don't take it personal and get defensive and turn it into a debate of whether something is silly or not just 'cause you did the same thing and don't think it was silly at all (which is ok too!!).
In short, let's keep the shiny side up, and hopefully have some laughs, ok?
I reserve the (well deserved, I might add) right to claim #1 as the founding and certifiable member of this club. I qualify because I have over 10 high end basses, and I keep buying more, despite the fact I only need maybe 2-3 to easily cover anything I'd ever need to play. Yeah, I'm an idiot!
Edit: I also promised johnnydi he could be #2, so
TB I.D.I.O.T. #2 johnnydi!

As a youngster, took my '72 jazz(maple board black blocks and binding) and had a buddy pull out the frets with god knows what 'cause I wanted a fretless. He didnt know I still wanted the neck to play it. Just thought i wanted the wire yanked, no matter how it turned out!! Needless to say, it ruined the neck. Damn!!! |

Edit: Is self-flaming allowed? I'm still pretty bitter.

Thinking I just forgot to put in in my case after I put my wheel on, I played the entire gig hunched over, looking foolish and not exactly at the top of my game. When I was packing up my car to go home, I saw the endpin hang'n out in the back of my car, laughing at me. |

I'm thinking this is going to be a large club.

I own 4 Sadowsky and they are all NYC. Two of them have either burl maple top or quilted maple top. I'm an idiot because I keep finding more option to put on something I can't even see when I'm playing.
I keep wanting more Sadowsky.
I'm addicted to a brand. What a moron. |

Hope this counts. I just sold it last week, and I already miss it....lol. |

It's now December 10th...
I have to send out 2 months rent next week, and also figure out how I'm going to have any cash to live off of.
Number please?
