I think it's a great idea.

I'll e-mail them right now and tell them that the idea is floating around Talkbass. I think we might need to get permission from Paul for something like this too.
So i'll PM him.

I realize the chances are very small, but could you imagine if we succeeded?

The people on the website say that will give them person who owns it a Brand New '62 P-bass from the Fender Vintage Closet.

I think that who ever does actually own it, will want more than that. I know I would.

To bass players, the owner of the Funk Machine now could ask for ANYTHING he wants. This bass is sacred!

regarding Jamersons Funk Machine here is a thread that surfaced yeterday...I honestly believe that the bass is no longer with us....if a musician stole it I am sure it would have turned up by now...if a theif stole it for some money and had no idea what to do with it it was more than likely made into fire wood or trashed...very negative thinking but....I also think the same way with the BOD I heard it was stolen when jaco was in central park and never seen again.....for these basses to be missing that long I am guessing they are either destroyed or a big part of a landfill.

I Know Who Has Jamerson's Funk Machine

what if tb took a collection, If 200 tbers donated 10$ to give to whoever turn it in, that 2000 bucks, which is a much beter deal than a 1-1 trade. Not what the bass is worth, but a lot closer

+1 I'm thinking they'd (rnrhof) have to come up with seven figures to get it from me.

Anyone called that line to see if they could at least put that old post to rest?

The dude names off so many people, I'm sure Bassplayer could put an end to it.

I'm not following what you mean. Sorry.

In that post, Funkyfretless claims he knows who has it, and names several people. Someone should call the magazine and tell them the names, they'd prolly contact and see what's up, or just downright refute the claim.

My bet is that it's either in a private collection or somebody's basement.

I'll do whatever I can down here in San Antonio. Maybe I'll find it in a shop somewhere, hassle the guy about the carving in the neck, buy it, take it home and play it, wash my hands b/c the strings have to be disgusting, then turn it in and get a nice new fender.

If I came across it I sure wouldn't be trading it for a Fender RI,to be honest I think it's an insult.

lol, i never said I would get a RI, i might get a couple of basses for turning this in. Maybe a Victor Bailey, a jaco fretless, and 3 free custom creations.

I just think to offer a Bass that really cost nothing to make in exchange for something like Jamerson's Bass(an instrument that could pretty much write its own ticket)is just an out right insult. If I happen to be on the road and stumbled upon a garage sell and came across Jamerson's Bass and of course I purchased it,I would have nothing to say to anybody other than the Jamerson family in regards to this missing Bass.Technically, logically and spiritually that's where it belongs and once it's back in the family then they have the right to do with it what ever they please But I wouldn't be surprised if some slick ass come along with some red tape BS about Jamerson's Bass is now property of the public domain, finding a way to keep it from the families possession but they themselves now owning it and having the right to do with it as they please basically outright taking what is not theirs to begin with.

in cases like this I'm not to trusting.

plus I have a Fender endorsement anyway

It's not a RI. They're offering a Brand New '62 precision from the Fender Vaults.

I guess Fender keeps a few basses from each year?
