Tape trading...

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm thinking of getting into tape trading. So There are some local bands that I want to record to my little sony tape player(yeah, I know..) and I was wondering how to record from the soundboard. Thanks.

The board should have a "stereo out" or some signal out that you can tap into. Plug it into an input on the recorder and adjust the signal level. Pretty straight forward.

If they are not using headphones, the headphone output can be tapped.

Someone I know has been doing it for many years: http://www.geocities.com/roadofplenty/
If you're polite, maybe he'll answer your questions.

get microphones.
Soundboards don't always sound right. If you DO get a soundboard, you'll want to Matrix (soundboard and microhones)

so really...you're better off to get a mic setup.

Way to keep it analog dude. IF you can get a good stereo mic setup and use a high quality analog deck (marantz, sony) then you' have a real recording...not just a clear data representation.

Most of the live audio recordings made by "tape" traders are being done with micro-recorders like the Zoom H-1. There are several highly rated models.
