TBer Warning!

Sign in to disble this ad
TBer 2001-Ps (from Canada) seems to be trying to stick me with the duties on a punch Factory I sold to him, here on TB. I just received a notice from FedEx that he hasn't paid the duty and they will charge me for it if they cannot get it from him. It's nearly $50.00.

Look out for that name if you're doing business on TB.

I don't see this thread turning out well.

You might want to reconsider it.

I don't see your post making any sense. I sold the item in mid July. I have a notice right here. What's the problem?

The mods seem to shut these sort of posts down with regularity. That's all I'm sayin.

Thanks. I'm not name calling. It's a fact. I'll send the mods a copy of the notice for their records, if they would like.

IMHO, this might have been a better first step. But you seem to have more than just reason for your posting.

bummer, man.

happy hunting Craig, because on the fedex site it does say what you are saying:

Responsibility for Paying Duties and Taxes
Duties and taxes on your international shipment will automatically be billed to the recipient*, unless the shipper instructs FedEx otherwise. The shipper can usually select either the shipper, recipient or a third party as the payer when you complete the FedEx International Air Waybill or FedEx Expanded Service International Air Waybill. When the recipient is the payer, the FedEx office in the destination country will, in most cases, call to collect or invoice the duties and taxes that have been assessed. We do this to recover the funds that we have advanced on the payer's behalf.

* If the designated recipient refuses to pay the duties and taxes, shipper will be liable to pay any outstanding charges.

Many inexperienced international buyers do not realize that their own country's customs office will charge them a hefty fee in addition to whatever they already paid for the goods.

99.999% of the time it is. I'd rather do a transaction on here than Ebay or Craigs List.

Hopefully, there's a good resolution in the end.

On the seller's part, you've now learned why shipping to Canada is best done by USPS. They're the only ones who don't gouge us Canadians for extra fees. FedEx does it. UPS is ridiculous with their fees.

It's they buyers' responsibility to pay the duties. He should've known that.

I just wanted to put in a word for 99% of Canadian TBers who understand duty, and thank you for continuing to trade and sell with us We realize that there are taxies and duty when we bring something in from the US. It is our responsibility. FedEx and UPS can flip flop, but if you send USPS, CanadaPost won't release the item until any balance due is paid.

Generally FedEx is the same, you need to pay or you don't get your item. However there are times when, for some unknown reason, it is billed later. It could be that it was paid via credit card that expired, or with a bad cheque.

FedEx just wants it's money and doesn't care who pays it, they're just angling to see if you'll pay it. It's the receivers responsibility and their outstanding bill that will go on their bad credit report.

I didn't say that you should lose anything, I just showed the thread Fedex's policy on paying taxes, and I meant happy hunting because YOU must now take the time, effort, and legal action if possible to collect your money.

there was no "oh brother your just beat" anywhere in my post.

you know posting stuff like this is going to get people stirred up with the "sorry that happened to you", and "you should have done this and that with the deal" I would be as pissed as you are for money and time lost in a transaction that happened right here on TB that went sour.

I'm sorry, that was intended for the FedEx rule; not for you.
