Tech 21 Para Driver for Guitar Distortion

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I was wondering if anyone uses their Para Driver for guitar, and if so, what kind of distortion can you get from it? I'm after Mesa Boogie or Marshall style distortion.

I'm specifically asking about this product because I intend to record using the DI out and not of the distortion or guitar options have DI outs.

Thanks for any responses.

The distortion can get pretty dirty, but that is by my pretty dainty standards. I don't want distortion in my bass sound, at all, though I like tube warmth, which is obviously distortion.

The paraDI does a good job of getting tubby goodness using less than 1/4 of the drive control's travel--a modest amount of blend. Beyond that it was always too much for me, so I backed it off.

I did try it a couple of times with guitar, and found it gave a nice sustain, that moved to fairly gritty.

The only downside I see for this unit as a guitar pedal, is that the parametric (paraDI, get it?) mid control covers a range of frequencies an octave lower than the guitar. You may or may not find this to be a problem. All IMHO.

Well, I downloaded the manual to the GT2 and it said that it's output jack is "universal" and it's possible to plug it directly into a mixer. I assume that it would also work with my computer interface, even without the DI.

On second thought, this unit is intended for all instruments, and I forgot I have used it as a pre amp for fiddle many times.

It should be fine with guitar,IMHO.
