technique made finding a comfortable bass a thing of the past?

well I switched my major from percussion to bass this past semester since I always found it more enjoyable and have been fortunate enough to be able to take lessons with Victor Miranda (current bassist for Al Di meola) I wouldn't say I was particularly bad at bass and it certainly wasn't anything new (had experience with victor wooten and john myung basslines,) but the biggest thing I was lacking in was proper technique.

before my lessons, not very many basses felt comfortable to play and I found myself searching for one specific bass in particular (my current main work horse) as it was the only bass that stood out to me comfort wise.

well since beginning my lessons and working mainly on better technique across the board, I've found that now I can pick up pretty much any bass and play it with no different feel from one or the other. be it a chunky P bass, a skinny SR or a bongo 5 string I had the luck of playing at a local music shop.

anyone else notice something similar from the start or when they developed their technique? on a side note, I miss that feeling of having a bass that stood out above the others in regards to comfort.

:tldr: does technique make every bass comfortable?

I think technique or just general experience playing does make switching basses from one to the next easier and less of a bother. I can comfortably switch between any of my basses without any trouble.

That said though, after gigging for 4hrs in a night... an uncomfortable bass will most likely let it self be known by the end of the gig.

For some reason, any bass I try right now feels uncomfortable. Perhaps you're right and my technique is just horrible...

Economy of motion can really make playing effortless and more comfortable in general.
