Tell us the best tips you've ever had! W/da deets

GOT IT ....I'll start....with my number TWO and come back my personal numer uno ...haha

Number two: San Mateo Ca. 2000 ish

we are playing a decent little Irish bar and at the end of the night (read: LAST TUNE )

A 6'4" Cowboy with the approiate boots and hat says ..

ONE MORE TUNE !!!

So I say put a hundred bucks in the tip jar and we'll do one.

He pulls a Benjeman out and says "play Mustang Sally"

I say boys, Mustang 1 2 3 4 bang were playin it and brfore the first verse is over the owner / bartender is going nuts cause it's after hrs, dig.
WE stop playing cause its a good gig. Cowboy says hey you didn't finish my song. So I simply said I know man the owner told us to stop, take your money back we never really did your tune. He said thats cool I liked your band.
Thanks and shots all round!
I won't talk about the ..lets say more "extracuricular tips"
keep it clean!

Buy low, sell high.

I got that one confused, I think, because I never made any good sales when I was high.

got $600 once...
it was after completing a killer dragon half sleeve on a guy and I got it done on a ridiculous timeline before he moved away pulling full day sessions working around the parts still healing to get it done... when finished, he paid up and threw down 6 bills as a thanks...I was gone!
but musically speaking, not much to speak of monetarily, but let's just say I didn't have to toot my own horn.....

I played a wedding once that we had booked for $3500. At the end of the night, the father of the bride hands us $4500. He was totally drunk. The next day I called him just to make sure he was OK with his decision to give us an extra grand. He said "I was drunk, but not THAT drunk. You guys made my little girl smile all night. That's worth a grand every time. Thanks." And hung up. The bride had three sisters. We played their weddings too. We got paid $4500-$5000 each. So, I guess I can say that one guy tipped us $4000+ over the course of six years.

On my first ever busking outing I played the Galway Farmer by Show Of Hands , a song about the Cheltenham Gold Cup (a horse race for anyone who doesn't know). A dude came straight out of the bookies opposite and gave me a twenty pound note. I have had a few £20 tips on the street but not lately. Maybe the novelties worn off and I need to work some new towns or maybe it's to do with the economy).
My favourite tip was a pound from the tory MP for our area. It's a great way of winding my dad up because he stood as a labour candidate against the same MP in an election. It seems to have improved my dads opinion of busking to so outstanding value for a tip.
