Thank You Guitar Center!

With only the slightest effort today, GC could have sold me an amp I probably don't need for a little more than I needed to pay, and wound up with my really nice pre-amp in trade for less than it's worth. But, I think, they huddled in the back room, diagnosed my GAS symptoms and, without telling me 'cause that would've just started an argument, used some reverse psychology to drive me away for my own good. First, the nice guy handed me off to the incompetent guy, who then took me over to the way-cooler-than-you guy who specializes in insults, condescending chortles and arrogant ignorance. He made short work of me by explaining that no one had ever heard of my SWR Grand Prix and therefore it could not be worth much. He also explained that they had paid so much for the used amp I was interested in that there could be absolutely no discussion of price, or anything else. And, shortly thereafter, I was on my way, money still in pocket. So, thanks Guitar Center, for your ethical and humane treatment of a hapless chump like me. I hope this gets to the right people in GC so you guys can be properly recognized.

This forum really needs a "thumbs up" button for entertaining posts.

There are some good people who work at GC that are frequent posters on this forum. Unfortunately, you met the S***. Sorry, its that way wherever you go though.

Epilogue: Sold the SWR Grand Prix to a fellow TB'er (who knew what it was) for a fair price and bought the same amp (new) for $50 less than GC's used price from a great online source. FWIW I certainly understand that not all GC's are created equal, in fact I went to one just a few miles away, but attitude-wise it might as well have been in another universe and worth the trip.

I, for one, know what an SWR Grand Prix is.
But what is this "Guitar Center" you speak of?

About once a month I stop in at GC and ask for something. It allows me the chance (if I can be heard over the noise) to educate the clerk about some other aspect of music hardware. I'm thinking if we all do this on a regular basis, we can help the staff at GC, before they leave to get a better paying job at McDonalds.

Wait a second! You're from California and you're describing
the three guys from our GC here in Pennsylvania!

To be honest, the guys here aren't too bad.

I've been using an SWR Grand Prix for about 15 years, and it's a great preamp. But I must have been wrong all these years since he says nobody has ever heard of it...
