I was just re-reading a copy of bass gear mag (for probably the 20th time) and got thinking. I have e-mailed Tom several times about amps, pre's, etc., and every time, he has responded with a quick, polite and sometimes lengthy response. That says alot when you consider that this guy is being e-mailed by many more people, helps run a magazine, deals with his own gas and holds down an actual job.
I have nothing fancy to say, just thank Tom. |

He's probably the most helpful person around here. and his gear collection is unfair. Thanks Tom!

Tom has been incredibly generous with his time answering some of my questions. So when I read he was planning to launch a bass gear magazine I immediately subscribed. I have not been disappointed and I have learned a lot reading Bass Gear Magazine. There is a huge difference between testing gear and owning it. Most bass journalists review gear objectively but I always give Tom some extra credential because of all the bass gear he actually owns. From the early days of his blog he has gone out of his way to describe bass tone accurately. When some journalists will use one sentence to relate how a cab or amp sounds like, Tom will spend a whole paragraph on the topic. The tones he likes don't always match the one I go for but I can trust his judgment and the quality of his analytical hearing.
If you don’t yet subscribe to his magazine I would recommend you do. For the price of a set of bass strings, you will save a lot of money over the long run by acquiring gear that match your needs and that has been reviewed by a true expert.
I wish a continuous success to Bass Gear Magazine and thank Tom for his passion and dedication. |
