Are There Any Drum Machines Designed For Live Use?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been looking into drum machines for recording and live use, but I'm not sure what to get. The DR-880 looked nice but Roland says it's not intended for live use (has no onboard RAM) and it seems like the software is a bit confusing. I'd want something more advanced than the old SR-16, and I'm not going software (no laptop). Any suggestions?

I know a bunch of keyboard players that just learn how to use drum machines on the fly... they are actually quite amazing... and yes, they are using the OLD stuff.

there are a few cool videos on that page that might pique your interest although they are hip-hop and some people are adamently against hip-hop, at least watch it for the operation, not the music

A lot of the single and duo acts I see around use Boss drum machines for drum parts and bass parts too. They get through a 2 or 3 hour set very easily. I Think the 770 or the 880 might fill the bill for you:
