Well, I guess that says a lot for us bassists as a community! I'm looking at doing some moonlighting on rhythm guitar and am looking for any resources that might be helpful.

There's been a lot of threads on this topic already, IIRC people suggest http://www.thegearpage.net/ or the Harmony Central forums.

IME, though, you'd be hard pressed to find a site as 'clean' as TB. In my history of being a TB member, I've never seen one profanity. Not one.

Could be because (don't want to start anything here, just my 0.02) the average bassist is inherently more mature than the average guitarist. Beginners who want to play for the sake of showing off will impulsively gravitate towards the six string. Such people make up for most of the members on most guitar forums. People who pick up the bass know what they're doing, rather than being guided by the impulse of wanting to be a "rock star".

If you ever find such a website, please tell us. There are many here who would like to know, myself included.

I have met many great guitarist whom I consider good friends. Sadly, there is something about them when they put that instrument in their hands that turns them. Guitarist seem to have a selfish presence when it comes to their music. As a result, I don't think they can come together as a community and constructively share dialogue for an extended time like we do here on TB. I'm sure there are forums out there in which they do share ideas, advice, teachings and positive enforcement... but I seriously doubt it's on the scale we have here on TB.

I know there are sites like the Telecaster forum and forums for each manufacturer. But I asked myself the same question a while back and I couldn't find a site that could match Talkbass in it's... Well, cohesiveness. That being without regard to make, model, or style of music.
Searching for another site for other instruments made me realize how awesome Talkbass really is. It's an amazing resource that we're lucky to have.

The Telecaster forum (http://www.tdpri.com/) s the closest thing I've seen to a well moderated guitar forum full of mostly well adjusted human beings. There's quite a bit of non-telecaster specific stuff going on there, too.

The Gear Page isn't awful, but its run like a huge ad for manufacturers. The mods will actively sensor any non-positive comments about certain manufacturers, and the place has an enormous number of folks who go on about pseudo science nonsense like a bunch of audiophiles. The mods do a pretty good job of keeping it civil, to their credit.

The following suggestion is mostly made tongue-in-cheek:

Maybe guitarists are like teenagers: they already know it all, so why would they need a forum to get advice from others?

On a more serious note, I've noticed that when I am searching for guitar-related info, the Telecaster forum comes up more often than most. Still, IME it seems to be mostly about the gear, rather than technique. Ditto for Gearpage...

Please not Harmony Central--unless you or the poster(s) you are quoting intended the suggestion as a joke.

The Gear Page is fine--and so is My Les Paul. The former tends to focus on PRS and the latter on Gibson (big surprise), but they are otherwise good places to go.

It's better than Ultimate-Guitar

Actually some users did indeed suggest HC in a thread about guitar forum sites here at TB and, in my pretty limited experience, it isn't that bad. But I also notice that some users detested HC as well.

You have a point. Still, I can take UG in limited doses. They seem to be more popular for their tabs than their forum though. Anyway, I have not been at HC since they "upgraded" to version 2.0. What a disaster beforehand though. The forums were actually like individual chat rooms unrelated to the name of the forum, where the amp forum was where the metal heads hung out, etc. It got to the point where it was virtually impossible to get information or mature behavior out of the place (the opposite of here) so I stopped going there, making it one of the smarter moves I've made in some time.

Another vote for TDPRI.com.

Why not have a guitar section here on TB?
