Are there terms for

Sign in to disble this ad
People who are really good, or progressing fast but have ****** equipment.

And for a person who doesn't play or practice but has godly equipment?

First example.

Youngster plays Chopin's Valse Op. 64 on a 50 dollar Rogue Classical guitar

Young kid trying to play smoke on the water on a very expensive Jackson guitar

Like owning a racecar you drive to work only. It's a waste.

I know if any of us had the option to have a race car to drive to work we wouldn't think twice.

+1 I would love a Ferrari Challenge car.

I may not have the chops of Matt Garrison, Hardrien Faraud, etc., but I love playing my MTD 635. It is an amazing instrument and it inspires me every time I touch it.

Why are you worried about other people's stuff?

I'm a hack. I've been a hack for over 25 years. I've got nice gear. I've worked hard for my gear. However, I've probably played with more "awesome" musicians, in more "awesome" bands and in front of more people than anyone that would level any sort of "talent vs. equipment" criticism at me.

... and I wouldn't want to drive a racecar to work. Just a nice 66 GTO hardtop.

First one: Talented

Second one: Not so talented

There is not enough data here to indicate that the second one is "stupid", "spoiled", or a "poser".

Nope.

A man that gets jealous because someone that's crap spent a lot of money on gear to play craply on is nothing short of shear penis envy.

A persons gear doesn't have to reflect their talent.

Penis envy.

When I say should, i'm not saying that there is an injustice if there isn't one. I'm saying I would have expected someone to have created the term right now.

Guessing I must have penis envy then...cause it burns me up!!!!
I hate seeing folks who just cant play....but think they can cause they have all the best gear. Now Im not talking about some spoiled 16 year old kid whoes daddy bought him that music man to lean on. Im talking about the 45 year old who rolls up with all the latest and greatest and cant play a freaking tune at all, but thinks he can.....just gets me....ughhhh....jealousy...a terrible thing!!!!!!!!!!!

This subject come up more often that I would have thought. People:

a) you're not the guy in question
b) you don't own his equipment
c) the first two really should extinguish any amount of concern you have for the situation.
