Wow!

Theremin Walking Bass - Pamelia Kurstin - YouTube

(Make sure you have headphones/half decent speakers, as you probably won't hear it on laptop speakers)

I'm a little suspitious. The pitch is controlled by closeness of the hand to the veritcal antena. Even though she's moving her fingers in kind of a bass like why, it looks like her knuckles are the closest part of her hand to the antena and that distance doesn't seem to move too much. Her right hand is doing what you would expect. Check some other Theremin clips on YouTube and see the difference.

The Theremin may be the most difficult instrument to play. A walking bassline is, of course possible, but one of the more difficult things to do with a Theremin. Hey, maybe its for real. I still have to ask... why?

I've seen Pamelia Kursten perform live, and she's the real deal: She's not only astoundingly adept at playing the theremin, but she also thinks like a very skilled jazz bass player, and so it's not just a gimmick. She swings, she grooves, she completely transcends her instrument.

I stand corrected then. Still, an odd instrument choice for bass. (everyday, something new)

I love the theremin and this is another great example of how to play it tastefully.

This is just incredible! I can't even walk like that with a real bass in my hands, lol. And whoever is tearing up those keys needs a round of applause themselves.

She is indeed the real deal. I have seen her live several times and each time she takes it to another level.

Her understanding of walking bass lines comes from the fact the herself plays the bass guitar.

And live it sounds like a real upright bass is in the house.

I hate the theremin. However, this made me glance over at it and smirk. I didn't know that little trickster was that cool.

I don't hate it but I basically had the same reaction. Always thought of it as a nerdy lookin noisemaking machine. Now I know it has the capability to be a nerdy lookin music making machine .

I had a section of one of my classes dedicated to this thing. It is ingenious, but the two theremins in the store I work in are about 25 feet from me. Hooked up to a keyboard amp, I am guessing 65-125 watts. I have not ever met a person who actually knows how to play it, so most people come by, plug it in (I ALWAYS have it unplugged from the wall and amp) and just end up making upsettingly loud noises. I blame the people, but I also blame the item for being what it is... Its a prejudice I guess... but that thing stares at me most mornings and I can read it's thoughts... It is thinking "I am going to annoy you today... I am going to annoy you today, I am going to annoy you today!!!!!! Right after that little runt gets done play with the drum machine.. guess what he's going to do.. hes going to PLAY WITH ME!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!"

......yes, these are the things I think about at work.
