Which of these deals should I go for? (Warning: Guitar Content)

Hey everyone

I have a fender classic 50s strat up on craigslist to swap for another guitar or bass. So far I have 2 offers which interested me: The 1st offer is a Fender Tele Thinline (2 Wide Range HBs, Semi hollow, made in Mexico, Bullet truss rod, based on the '72 thinline). The 2nd is a Fender Lite Ash Telecaster (Ash body of course, Seymour duncan single coils, made in Korea, Solid Body)

The guy who made the first offer also want £50. The guy who made the 2nd offer just wants a straight swap

I play indie rock and punk rock mostly, but I also play some RHCP and Jimi Hendrix songs (hence why I have a strat). Which of these deals should I go for.

Those are two completely different animals. The one with humbuckers is basically a Les Paul or ES335 tone, the other one is a traditional tele or Strat sound with single coils. Which do you want? Since you have a strat with single coils already, maybe you could use the humbucker guitar? Those thinlines look great too.

Would I still be able to get a les paul tone with a semi hollow guitar though?

My buddy has one of those thinlines... it is a VERY mid-rangey beast and can be a bit harsh at times. Would be cool for punk/indie, not so much for the funkier stuff IMO.

It definitely does not sound like a LP either, more upper midrange honk going on.

But they are very cool axes and look sweet to boot.

edit: personally, I would choose the tele, but I prefer more 'jangle' than 'honk' in guitar tone.

Play them if you can.

Or possibly sell yours and buy a Les Paul.
