Thick as a Tool

I was recently introduced to the band Tool, and very good they are too.

The first thing that struck me was that Maynard Thingy's vocal lines are VERY similar to Ian Anderson's in Jethro Tull. Apart from when he's shouting (or playing the flute).

Is this a common observation?

Yeah... I'd say they are a tad different.

Well, the common Tool connection is made to King Crimson. Check out KC's disc "Red." Maynard/Tool have cited King Crimson as a huge influence.

Well I'm listening to "Schism" at the mo, and the melody is pure Tull. "Parabola" - could be a cover of track from the "Under Wraps" sessions that never made it to the album.
