one of the great things about being human is being able to play the bass and one of the great things about playing the bass is the inability to agree with fellow bass players on the most simple of things
so lets see what you think the all time greatest bass disagrement is *note this thread has been created for fun no b**hing at each other please children! this is a pole to find out what bassists moan about the most but can never seem to agree on keep it civil thankyouplease*

The (electric) bass was developed with the intention of being picked.
Somehow the fingerists became the norm (and the elitists). Quote:

number of strings isint that much of an issue. theres still some narrow minded folk saying "thats not a bass" but most other people own atleast one 4+ sting bass..
tube vs ss might be on the list as well? |

I think the closest I've come is saying that I don't have any interest in warp speed tapping or slapping demonstrations, which I guess would be covered by "speed vs feeling", but I've never really thought those things were mutually exclusive. |

You think we're bad, go to a motorcycle forum & try asking what kind of motor oil works the best.

| | | | You know, fingers v pick is pretty bad, but most bassists I meet can agree that it's all about tone. I chose light touch v digging in because that creates the most problems with me. I feel that if you do nothing but either one of those things, it's a sign of poor technique. |

Wow those are good ones. I would've added these though .
Neck through vs bolt on
Strings through body vs strings to the bridge
Humbuckers vs single coils
Combo vs head+cab
To rack vs not to rack
Pedal tuners vs rack tuners
9V vs 18V
Made in USA vs made in XXX
The list may be endless though.... Quote:

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | They're all good choices, but I had to go with fingers/pick just because that seems to be the one that people seem to get real dickish about.
The worst subject is the Coverband/original band argument. That's gotta be the dumbest thing to have a strong opinion on musically.
