2. Build a relationship with the company- get to know people there, actually buy and use their stuff, share ideas with them, etc.
3. Always present yourself professionally. For example, write using standard punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. If they have a choice between a player who presents themselves as inteligent, professional, and interested versus someone who presents themselves as lazy, uncaring, and a newbie, guess which one gets the advantage.

Show the company that you're serious and professional, as well as able to promote their brand. Also, if the company will be at any trade shows in your area, go talk to their reps (even better yet, buy something from them directly), and get to know people in the company. (Disclaimer: I don't personally have any endorsements yet, but my drummer is currently soliciting for endorsements, so I have close secondhand experience)

That's been a few years and I wonder if the math is working out better these days.

"LOVE" the products that you endorse. You are basically being paid to help the company get more sales. You can't effectively do that if you don't truly believe in the product that you are endorsing.
