Be in a band that's getting lots of visibility (or get lots yourself), love the company, own something of theirs that you actually bought, be sincere, and write them telling them you'd like to be an endorser.

1. Have some visibility so that your endosement might actually mean something to other bassists.
2. Build a relationship with the company- get to know people there, actually buy and use their stuff, share ideas with them, etc.
3. Always present yourself professionally. For example, write using standard punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. If they have a choice between a player who presents themselves as inteligent, professional, and interested versus someone who presents themselves as lazy, uncaring, and a newbie, guess which one gets the advantage.

Put together a press kit for yourself, similar to what you have for your band- Include recordings, gigs played, upcoming gigs, pictures, discography, radio appearances, print reviews, etc... Show the company that you're serious and professional, as well as able to promote their brand. Also, if the company will be at any trade shows in your area, go talk to their reps (even better yet, buy something from them directly), and get to know people in the company. (Disclaimer: I don't personally have any endorsements yet, but my drummer is currently soliciting for endorsements, so I have close secondhand experience)

You might want to understand that the company doesn't endorse you, you endorse them and their products.

And while we're being picky - it's "companies".

What everyone else said, and have a good mouthpiece. Trust me, if you can't sell yourself, nobody's gonna buy.

Interestingly, I once saw a long article in a music magazine about why it usually isn't a good idea to get an endorsement deal, that it typically benefits the company more than it does you as a musician if you're a major act.

That's been a few years and I wonder if the math is working out better these days.

Someone else said something very important. "LOVE" the products that you endorse. You are basically being paid to help the company get more sales. You can't effectively do that if you don't truly believe in the product that you are endorsing.
