To those of you who have played Aint No Mountain High Enough

hi, about a year ago I made the transfer over from learning by tab to learning songs by ear, learning the chord changes/key and coming up with my own bassline, and have gotten pretty good at doing so. But I've been sitting here and working on Aint No Mountain High Enough (Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell). I just cant seem to get the chord prgression down in the chorus. So, to those of you who have played this song and didn't play the exact jamerson version, what chord progression did you use?

help is greatly appreciated.

The only correct progression is the one the rest of the band uses. Either you're all playing the changes together, or you're all playing them wrong.

You're talking about the basic chord progression of the chorus, not all the notes of the run, to catch it by ear...

On the words...

Don't remember which key this song was in, but I think it is in A minor. Then the chords in the chorus would be something like this:

(syncopation ignored)
| Fmaj7 | Em7, Am | x 3
| Dm7... C/E|F____ |

IIRC. I don't have an instrument in front of me now to check it on...

great tune.. and really happening bass line. i use it a lot for teaching beginner/intermediate level players to read.

the chorus progression is:

Gmaj7 Em7 | F#m7 Bm7

looped until the last one where it is

Em F#| Gmaj

simple progression - at least in the chorus.. the verse has a few slash chords. Whats cool about it is how jamerson sits on a fairly static progression and keeps it so busy and interesting, staying away from repeating a phrase/phrases.

have fun learning the tune!

Yeah I know, we thought to play this song and I volunteered to figure out the song(since out guitar player still isn't very good at it). I was planning on teaching the prgression to our guitar player. I was just curious to see if you guys knew.

So to bass349, Deacon_Blues, and The Golden Boy, thank you for the help.
