I am not sure what crackhead in the design team over at Gibson is coming up with these wack designs but someone needs to put a stop to it. Also since when did having a figured maple top on a guitar run you an extra 2 grand, Gibson needs to pull there heads out of there ass's here the price difference in wood is maybe 15 or 20 bucks between figured and cheap crap wood we are not talking about coco bolo. Am I the only one that see's this bull **** and gets

Somebody likes it, and Gibson thinks they'll sell.

Not my personal taste, but different strokes for different folks.

i think the extra 2 grand involves slightly more than just a figured maple top.

those electronics look pretty crazy to me. i'd never play an instrument like that, but like dark horse said....

I agree, however what really makes me mad is the fact that they charge so much more for a figured top on a guitar its insane. Also almost every new gibson I have played just felt cheap and more like an epiphone which is pretty much what they are these days unless you spend 5 grand ish. Its just kind of sad that a company that once made such wonderful instruments is les pauls name is now turning out such crap. As to who the buyers of these guitars are Im not sure. They could buy a knock off for 2 grand less and wind up with about the same guitar.

Sorry I should have been more clear in my rant. Not that model, I am speaking of the reproduction ES 335 and a few others that charge around 2 grand more for a figured maple top. in the bass world that would be a freaking outrage

If I need to post prices and picks I will LOL the fact is new gibson guitars are a rip off. For what you pay you could have a custom guitar built that would rock anything gibson makes for like 3500 bucks

What I cant talk about guitar and bass, this is instrument related. I play bass and guitar, the base of the discussion is the fact that gibson and other name brand companys are taking so many short cuts they are no longer making a product that is worth what they once were. Thats all

You do realize that this guitar has the auto-tuning, etc etc etc. It is a top level guitar technology wise for them.

I have no interest in it, but apparently there are people who do. Seems like it would be hell to maintain 10 - 20 years down the road.

I read somewhere that the guitar is "only" like 3000 bucks? To be honest given all the bells and whistles it comes with, I'd have expected a lot more. Is it made in the US?

It's still hideous-looking, though.

The electronics in that thing are insane. definitely cutting edge stuff. It make me shutter to think how complicated things are going to be in 5-10 years.

Hahah! They put out this wacky electronic gizmosaurus with 30 years out-of-date styling, goofy name and overinflated price tag, and THEN they show the dismal player ratings right there on the official Gibson website. Check out those comments:

This guitar is by far the dumbest looking, probably over gizmo stuffed, terrible excuse for and instrument I have ever seen. I read up on all the specs, demos, and reviews, and its absolutely terrible. Why were they thinking they could just attach HUGE metal pickup covers/pickguard?? As someone who works in a music retail store, I pray we never get them in, because they will NEVER sell.

You can program both the preamp and the pickups via included software.

The preamp can be set to give each knob whatever you choose it to (EQ, effects, whatever).

Each pickup can be programed to act as a humbucker, single-coil, or P-90. You can even choose which portions of the pickups you want to have as one of the above.

On top of that, it has a built-in wireless system. And it tunes itself.

P.S. The $4k price tag is the MSRP

In my opinion they're not attractive plus Gibson has made so many bone headed decisions for years now, they're in peril of going belly up. Wouldn't it be interesting if Paul Reed Smith wound up owning them after Gibson sued him? Or even stranger if Fender wound up owning Gibson?
