Tip: wear your belt buckle to the side.

I've done this for years and never see anyone else do it. I just wear my belt buckle on my left hip, one belt loop over. No buckle rash on ANY of my guitars.

Well, of course. Double bass for me, but same concept.

Most bassists I know do this.

Started doing this 5-6 years ago. I don't tell anyone because I don't care if they devalue a bass I might want to buy someday.

Whoa Flashback time! back in the old days? In high school? in the auto shop to be specific, all the greasers wore their belt buckles on the hip, figure out why. No scratches on that candyredmetalflakeflamejobbaby! I'm talking the guys they romanticize in movies, guys whose wives picked them up with the kids in the car after 8th period, so they could make it to their jobs.....Ah the good old days! Come back Fonz.

Hmmm, my belt buckle has never roughed up any of my basses, it has, however, worn a few holes in some of my favorite t-shirts. I'll have to try this "to the side" thing.

EMO kids have been doing that for years.

I like how style seems to transcend generations.

Todd Stanley, you are becoming EMO.

One of my best friends comes from a long line of degenerate musicians, one night were at his parents house with his uncle and grandfather and some of our friends. Well my buddy see's my friends grand pa come out of the bathroom and he leans over and tells me how sad it is that he's getting so old he cant get his belt on straight.

I never worry about it. I only wear a belt if I'm "dressed up" for a jazz gig anyway. My Squire VM fretless can get a few scratches - it'll add character.

Yep, side belt buckle is something I used for years. No "rash" on my basses.

Or better yet, go to a law enforcement uniform supply shop and get a velcro belt. No buckle at all = no buckle scratches.

I've been a paramedic a loooooooooooooooong time and we got given these belts as uniform items about twelve years ago. After a few days to get used to it, I decided I liked the whole 'no buckle' thing. I still wear one every day, and ESPECIALLY if I'm playing.

I just strap my bass high enough that it lifts and separates my man teats. No buckle rash on my basses!

Play naked, it'll be fine.

Though, I always use the side buckle, even when not playing, offset at least.

most uniform supplies and tool trucks for automotive tools have "scratchless" belts, the buckle id covered by leather.

I started doing that years ago- I took my cue from Peter Tork.

Lately, however, I've taken a fancy to suspenders for holding up my gig trousers.
