I spent the morning and afternoon at my friends house helping her attempt to salvage what little was left after a 4 alarm fire destroyed pretty much everything. Luckily she wasn't in the house when it burned, but it was such a bleak, depressing scene....a whole life's work turned to ashes.

That sucks. A fire in my home is in my top 5 fears.

Sorry to hear, Dark Horse. I'm a Contractor, specializing in insured claims/disaster recovery. I see this all too often. They got out w/ their lives, everything else is 2nd, but it still stings.

That does suck! Im so sorry to hear about your friend's house. Fires are brutal. They don't pick and choose what to take - they'll just get everything. Thank goodness your friend was not there. A life saved while a life's work destroyed. I will keep her in my prayers and hope that she can pick up the pieces and get through this loss. Hopefully things will get better for her and out of the ashes will come a phoenix.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, not much is left. I managed to salvage a few of her hardwood stairs, so I'm gonna build a guitar for her out of those....just a piece of the house that she can take with her when she finally gets in a new place.

The only reason that she didn't die is that she was at her boyfriends that night. It was a 5am fire....the roof collapsed first, as the fire started in the attic...and when the attic window blew out, the fire was sucked through the whole roof area and it all collapsed within moments.

To top all this off, her ex-husband had let the insurance lapse, so she won't even get a insurance settlement for everything she lost.

My day was only "depressing" (though I didn't let it show around her) .... she, on the other hand, lost pretty much everything and truly has to start over.

Please.... check your fire alarms in your houses tonight and make sure that they are working and have fresh batteries.

I am so sorry to hear that bro; my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. Thankfully she was not there and is o.k.; but the pain from something like this is crushing. I have seen so many families lose everything this way. Indeed, my prayers go out to them.

Thanks man. She needs all the good karma and prayers she can get right now.
