Tommy Lee's HUGE bass drum?

Has anyone seen the new motley crew video? Tommy Lee's bass drum is like twice the size as normal. Are they trying to be funny or is this serious?

Were they ever serious?

I just looked it up, it's 42". Triggered, so it doesn't matter how it sounds.

You know what they say...big *ick, big kick.

Seriously tho, Tommy has had a fascination with these huge kick drums...he has since the kickstart my heart era, iirc ( the video with the Mighty Mouse attached to the top was a massive kickdrum), and as big as the kick was then (30+" iirc), but this is just plain cartoony....it looks stupid and I think Tommy is deluded if he thinks otherwise...I had seen this and discussed it elsewhere, and the general consensus is that he's more of an attention whore than ever...and this isn't helping matters.

If that is the case, then every jazz drummer is packing inches and every emo drummer is a friggin moose.

So there goes that theory.

My drummer just got a new set of Pearl Sessions and it has a big kick drum. It really sounds fat.

My old band played with a band whose drummer had a 24" or 26" kick. It sounded great, but that's the largest that I've ever seen in person.

I like the sound of small diameter and deep bass drums. 20 diameter x 22 deep is my favourite size but very rare.

He's been using a gigantic drum for ages. At least since Dr Feelgood:
