Trade in Trade up....Joke

So I went to GC yesterday in Charleston SC, and heard the biggest crock of BS this side of the Mississippii.

I took my BRAND NEW Squier Deluxe Active 5'er in to see if I could trade it in for a VM Frettless (which sounded great). the guy said he'd run some numbers and be back in sec. I played the fretless, happily plucking away. He came back about 5 min later and told me they are selling for $200.00 on ebay so they would give me $100.00 for it. I bought the bass from MF on Feb 3rd for $299.00 plus tax and shipping. Its brand effing new! So I played a few other basses and left. Now I know Squier isn't " The Brand" so to speak, but to offer me $200.00 less than I paid for it is just BS IMHO.

Did anyone else have a similar experience at the " Trade in, Trade Up" sale this weekend?

On a latter note, I played an MM Stringray for the first time ever (for some reason Ive never seen one in any shop I'd been to, and actually played it) I found the neck width at the nut to be way to small for my taste. Lots of sound options though.

Not this weekend, but I've had similar experiences in the past. The 50% of e-bay offer seems about standard for them.

YUP its a frigen JOKE

I should fix their wording for them

"you get 15% off new gear, when we pay you 10% of what your used gear is worth!"

I brought a BRAND new 90 dollar boss bass overdrive in, and the offerend me 15-20 for it, i just laughed at them.

They are just a BUSINESS trying to make money, that is all.

agreed JSINGLES....I did however play a nice Ibanez 6er, but the action was to low, and I couldnt get the fretbuzz to go away. It was a looker though

This sounds about right. You are almost always going to lose your rear trading with a retail store. Remember, it may still look new, but it is not new, and the warranty will not transfer to the new owner. Also, GC will want to sell your bass and make some money on it. So maybe they sell it for $175.00 and make $75.00. You should try to sell it yourself.

yea i also did manage to find something awesome while i was there though, that I wish I could afford.

I played an MTD KZ-5 for the first time

WOW... GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

it weighed NOTHING, played like a DREAM, looked BEAUTIFUL, and sounded INCREDIBLE.. all for 1200... i wanted to sell my 1500 dollar fender to buy one!

I'm gonna put it on craigslist for like $250.00 and see if I can get that. Then I can get a 5 string fretless from rondo...or maybe even a fretless sixer...which Is what I really want.

I saw some Laguna basses there. They looked cool, but I didn't play any...you guys ever heard of em.

if MF sold it to ya for 299, they prolly have at least 30 percent on that, so, they earn about a hundred on a new one. To even bother selling your, GC need to earn about the same (the 30%), at least.. and for someone to choose to purchase a "used" instead of a new, the price need to be quite a bit better than 299...

I don't see the problem, gear drops 30% AT THE BEST when you walk out of the store, never forget that...

I want an SX myself. I have never tried one, but they seem like a lot of fun for such cheap instruments.

I could get myself a nice cheap fretless

Trading in something to a music store is just like trading in a car. You're always gonna get killed on the value compared to what the dealer will offer. You'll have better luck selling your gear outright, and then going and purchsing what you want.

They're not ripping any of you off, whether you gear is in brand new shape or not. They can order a new one into the store for slightly more than they're offering for your used gear. This is how it has always been. You're always better off selling your stuff to an individual.

whoah hold up... MF and GC are sister companies and have a lot of similar policies.... GC for instance has a 30 day return policy... if you got yours on feb3 you are WELL within that return.... you should see if MF offers the same return policy.

when I started typing this, steam's post wasn't on here, by the time I posted, it was, LOL
