Transcribing a tuba solo

Sign in to disble this ad
Don't know if this is the right section to post this in, but here we go...

There's this amazing tuba solo called "Warrior Comes Out To Play" by Nat McIntosh of the Youngblood Brass Band, and I'd love to figure it out on bass. The problem is that you can't get sheet music for it, it's pretty fast, and I don't have one of those cd-trainer things that can slow down a song without affecting pitch. I do have Audacity, but using it to slow down a song doesn't usually turn out well for me.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to transcribe it, or am I stuck just listening to it over and over and figuring it out one small bit at a time?

Nope you're stuck unless someone else has done it.
Have you considered contacting the band themselves?
Good luck,
Dirk

You could probably find a tuba part and just read it... In pep band I switch between bass parts, trombone 1&2 parts, and tuba parts depending on the song. They're all in the same key, written in bass cleff, and are doable on bass.

When I was a young violinist my teacher took me to orchestra camp where I had to sight read stuff that was more than I could handle. She told me to play every second note. Kinda worked out as I recall.

Point is your ear can hepl you fill in the missing notes if you score the important ones, get thru it a lot quicker like that.
