Trying to protect myself with a paypal deal

Sign in to disble this ad
A gibson t bird was on ebay i bid 860$ and shipping was 40$, reserve was not met. Seller contacted me offering to sell it for 900$ shipped , outside of ebay . I will still be usig paypal to conduct this , i think 900$ is a good deal on these . Its a 2003 and has the original case, in great shape so I dont want to pass it up.

Will paypal still protect me? seller has 500 or so positive feedbacks, just dont want to put myself at a big risk.

500 positive feedbacks is nice. Does the seller sell pretty much all music equipment?

Do not use the gift option, if he requests it through Paypal.

they offer solid protection thru ebay, but not to the same extent otherwise as they cant verify what you were buying as fully.. call em to get the details..

They still offer protection but I think its only the full script if you pay using a "backed" payment like your credit card which offers you protection as well...

but call em. (go to your paypal account, click contact and they will give you a webpin that you need to use when calling em)

Thanks everyone!

I wont use the gift option and I will look into what he has shipped in the past since a t bird's headstock can be busted off easily.

use your CC as payment, I had an issue last year, discover backed me and they dealt with paypal, PP investigated and gave a refund, but having the CC on my side was nice

Tell him to put it back up on eBay with a Buy It Now option and to notify you immediately once it's up. Then get it with eBay/PayPal protection.

I am working it out right now, he is wanting to not use ebay due to fees because of it , they take 10% so thats 90$ if i did my math right.

He sent me a request for 900$ to my paypal account, under type it says "bill from" , so he made sure it was not a gift.

Anyways I called paypal and explained it to them , looks to be secure.

Thanks for the advice.

here is the bass, stoked about it

This is the way to go FOR YOU.
I'm sure he would like to avoid the ebay fees but that is what protects you - the fact that you have a third neutral party in the middle of the transaction that can settle a dispute if one arises.
