Question Tuner Help

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

My son, age 13, just started playing my Kramer bass my band used during my college years (87-91). He's playing in his school's band and is taking private lesson. I wan't to buy him a tuner for a Christmas present but I have no idea which brand or model to buy. I used a pitch pipe to tune my guitar in college, but I want to get him something a little nicer. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Darrin

The Korg Pitchblack tuner is absolutely awesome. Multiple modes, fantastic display, VERY accurate, and has a small footprint. It's about $90.

It sounds silly, but it's the most perfect piece of gear I own.

If he doesnt already have a headphone amp, consider the Korg Pandora PX4B. It has a tuner and lots more cool stuff.

+1 on the korg pandora, a tuner, drum machine, effects and headphone amp all in one. the current version is the PX5D i think. But if you go for something like a PX4B or a PX3B,earlier models they do just fine!

Or you could go for a Zoom B2, again effects pedal, tuner, headphone amp all in 1.

Both of these are widley used and provide more fun that just a tuner on its own!

The Boss TU-2 tuner has a nice feature: there are two outputs. One of them mutes whenever you're in tuning mode...great way to tune quietly. The other output can go directly to another amp and does not mute - so you can use whichever one you wish. The tuner reads in large red letters and can be set to bass or guitar. It's very durable...and one of the standards. Definitely worth considering.
