I am finishing up an acoustic flat top bass and need some tuners. What do some of you recommend for tuning machines for an acoustic? I don't know the pros/cons of the Bass side of things with the TM's, so any help is appreciated. Thanks very much.

What of the primary concerns is what kind of key shape are you looking at? Y-key? Or cloverleaf? or
Either way I'd probably recommend the Hipshots for their light weight, high tuning ratio and high quality built here in the US of A.

Just curious, that's all.
I was the same way until I had three Schallers and a "matching" Hipshot Xtender on one bass. The next bass was all Hipshots, and I felt they were better tuners, and later changed all my Schallers for Hipshots. Full sized tuners though.
On an acoustic bass, I feel that weight would be more of an issue, and lightweight tuners would be more suitable, considering a hollow body for better balance.

Its a maple neck with Cocobolo laminates, so it'll be a little heavy already. Functionally, I always like putting products on my guitars that will last, so maybe hipshot lightweights are the way to go?

| | | | I have Schallers on my bass, and they seem to be smooth functioning and sturdy. However I will be getting a Hipshot Extender soon.

Which tuner that is a direct replacement for a stock Fender tuner is the best quality?
I mean, if I want to replace the tuners on say my Jazz, but I want to look the same and use the same previously drilled holes, who has the best quality?
Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay...GO!

My fretless is a 1988 MIJ Standard Jazz. I want to replace the tuners that came with it. They were okay for a long time but seem to be getting a little 'loose' in the gear, now. And I like to tinker a little bit with my basses anyway.
So, I want to replace the stock Fender Japan tuners from eighteen years ago, becasue they're apparently good for seventeen years. I'd like to not drill any new holes if possible. But I'd really really like to have a good tight set of tuners again.

| | | | Tuning Machines You will need HB2 tuning machines for your bass. These will be a direct replacement.
