As I posted in one of the other threads - Frank Zappa briefly had two bassists during the autumn 1978 tour. Arthur Barrow and Patrick O'Hearn. Barrow plays a Gibson Grabber/Ripper and O'Hearn plays a fretless Fender.

If you ever see the SNL episode he hosts during this period, they are both on stage.

No offense meant, thought you might like better results the next time though.

It doesn't work too well on the internal search engine when "basses" is one of your keywords. The Talkbass "Search Forums With Google" option is better in a case like that, but I prefer the way the standard Google.com search groups Talkbass threads.

Try this search string on Google.com to see what I mean:

site:talkbass.com bands with two basses

Anyhow, I've played in a few bands with two bass players myself. It's a real lesson in cooperation or chaos, depending.

LCD Sound System pulled it off beautifully.

Marcus Miller has used a "rhythm" bassist on some albums(not sure if he does it on every album). And I'm sure that primus has used multiple basses too, lord knows they do just about everything else(half the time I read the list of instrument that each band member plays on the back of their albums I expect to see random things like "Chilean sea bass, watering fountain, particle accelerator.")

Also, sometimes I feel like Toast Machine should use a rhythm bassist to put some "meat" on their sound.
