Two Piece bands

Sign in to disble this ad
I've become obessed with two piece bands, particularly Drum and Bass duo's, but I haven't found very many. I love Swims, Planets, Ruins, Moonchild (not technically a two piece because there is a separate vocalist) I was wondering if anyone knows of others. Any genre is fine as long as its a drummer and a bass player, though math rock and jazz is prefered

I wanna make a funk type band with a guy i know, him singing, me on bass, and his really awesome drum machine on drums, OR a real drummer, but the drum machine would be sooooooooooooo much easier.

Coz I was listening to Give It Away and my mind was blown by the simplicity, and I thought we could totally do without a guitar, or if we need a guitar, his drum machine is also a sampler kinda, so we could use that!

Check out Om. It's not math-rock or jazz, but it is nonetheless amazing stoner doom/gnostic metal.

Also, Lightning Bolt. They will change your life.

have some nice Drum 'n' Bass things...

William Calhoun & Doug Wimbish also did something together.

Cause For Effect plays crazy drums-and-bass-only grindcore fusion. Songs are about 10s-1min long and are pretty funny . Live they are pretty killer. Here you go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81BZRyR7h4Y

I have been experimenting with a drummer who is using a Roland drum pad and an echoplex while I use the line 6 m9 which has a built in looper plus tons of effects including the whammy. He loops drums and adds sampled effects and I switch between looping the bass and adding lead with the whammy 2 octave up with the bass. We've got some pretty cool stuff going on but it takes a lot of practice to make it sound "good"

But you'll not find any better examples than Ruins and Lightning Bolt IMO.

(Death from Above '79 gets an honorable mention, but they pale in comparison to most other bands in this category. Not trying to start a war, just my opinion.)

I used to play in a two-piece drum & bass band, more in an alternative/experimental rock fashion, but it was great fun! We called it, the Human Machine.

That's been my preferred format for many years. I do switch to guitar and guitar synth for some of our tunes though.

Sounds clips here and here.

Death From Above 1979 is my favorite 2 person band. The drummer sings and the bassist just plays like a madman.
