I frequently see threads asking about light basses by players with shoulder or back pain. I spent a fortune on light basses for that reason. I couldn't play a 7 lb bass for 15 minutes without severe shoulder pain. With the bass belt I can now play a 12 lb boat anchor all night with a smile. I bought it from a guy who used to advertise in the back pages of Bass Player. He didn't get noticed and the co. closed, but he saved my love of bass. It's basically a weight lifter's belt with a leather tongue on the front that holds a Dunlop straplock. This attaches to a recessed Dunlop straplock receiver you put in the lower body edhe of your bass. The belt supports 90% of the instruments weight. You still wear a strap, but just to keep the bass in position. Modding the bass takes 5 minutes, a drill and a 3/8" bit. I'm sure the belt can be home cooked from a weight lifter's belt. It's barely visible when worn. Some may find it uncool, I find it to be pure genius.

I've yet to see any new ads so I guess he's gone for good. Great idea. I'd love to have one. )-(

Am I reading this correctly? You have to drill a hole in your bass?
I can see that being an issue for some folks. That might be why they didn't sell. |

This is the first I've heard of such a thing! How have these been around for so long without me knowing?
Can you still jump around on stage while using one?

I don't see why it couldn't be done using the same strap lock. Instead of limiting that strap at the bottom to the back of the bass, you could also extend it and attach it to the regular strap and use the normal strap lock postion. Yes? No? |

I've never been able to jam while sitting on my butt. Actually it wasn't the sitting that was the problem. It was the relaxed, bent elbow. I've jammed while laying down though. . . |
