ultimate cure for shoulder/back pain

Sign in to disble this ad
I frequently see threads asking about light basses by players with shoulder or back pain. I spent a fortune on light basses for that reason. I couldn't play a 7 lb bass for 15 minutes without severe shoulder pain. With the bass belt I can now play a 12 lb boat anchor all night with a smile. I bought it from a guy who used to advertise in the back pages of Bass Player. He didn't get noticed and the co. closed, but he saved my love of bass. It's basically a weight lifter's belt with a leather tongue on the front that holds a Dunlop straplock. This attaches to a recessed Dunlop straplock receiver you put in the lower body edhe of your bass. The belt supports 90% of the instruments weight. You still wear a strap, but just to keep the bass in position. Modding the bass takes 5 minutes, a drill and a 3/8" bit. I'm sure the belt can be home cooked from a weight lifter's belt. It's barely visible when worn. Some may find it uncool, I find it to be pure genius.

I too though it was a great idea when I saw the ad in Bass Player a couple of years back, but when I called to order one, the owner of the company told me that he had folded the company due to a distrubution problem, I believe, and that he should be back in business before too long. I've yet to see any new ads so I guess he's gone for good. Great idea. I'd love to have one. )-(

It looks promising; does it inhibit booty shaking? One does feel the urge from time to time...

The old website was bassbrace.com. Seemed like a good idea, but the downside, and I think it's the major downside that killed it, was that you had to drill a hole in your bass.

Couldn't you make something similar that your bass would sit down inside of? Like those metal hose holders that hang on your house..but obviously not just like that. But maybe a padded metal strip?

Am I reading this correctly? You have to drill a hole in your bass?

I can see that being an issue for some folks. That might be why they didn't sell.

I permanently fixed my back's problems with playing bass (and guitar) by using one of these.

That's ASTOUNDING!

This is the first I've heard of such a thing! How have these been around for so long without me knowing?

Can you still jump around on stage while using one?

I understand that the belt would carry the bulk of the body weight, and that, as you say, you still wear a strap, BUT . . . the 3/8" mod to the bass is what's a turn off. I don't see why it couldn't be done using the same strap lock. Instead of limiting that strap at the bottom to the back of the bass, you could also extend it and attach it to the regular strap and use the normal strap lock postion. Yes? No?

This also reminds me of that guy that puts out the attachment that allows you to SPIN your bass. . . . but I can't think of his name. Anybody know what that was?

Sitting while playing is cool for mellow took but what do you do when you really want to rock? I've never been able to jam while sitting on my butt. Actually it wasn't the sitting that was the problem. It was the relaxed, bent elbow. I've jammed while laying down though. . .

Wow, were you in an accident or something? Judging by your avatar you look like a reasonably fit guy, so I'm wondering what the problem is.
