Hi I need your advice, I am looking for the best in ear monitors I can get for the money. I know that if I don't spend a huge amount of $$ I wont be completely satisfied, but that is as high as I can go. I have narrow it to the the following 2, Ultimate Ears Super fi 5 Pro and Etymotic ER-4P. I want to use them also to hear music through my mp3 player, since for a while i wont have the money to buy the wireless transceiver and emitter.
Which one will you recommend and why. I leaning towards the ultimate, because of the removable cord and the dual drivers, but the etymotic seem to get better reviews, and less complaints on the build quality. Is it worth spending that amount of money or will I be fine for example with the v-moda which seem to be well liked and cost around 90$ less.
Thanks very much for your comments, here in Venezuela I don't have the opportunity to see them personally before buying or returning them if I don't like them, because of the time it takes for the item to arrive here. |

EB = Extended Bass
found this review, for In ears I never foudn the cable too short.
I think the 'cons' about the bass says it all. LOVE EM!!!! http://reviews.cnet.com/Ultimate_Ear...-31445054.html

Does it makes the music sound to boomy, I mean really unnatural with to much bass, or it is just capable of reproducing much better the low frequencies. Have you had any issues with the cables?
Thanks for your reply, I really appreciated, considering that I am a bass player, maybe I will be better with the EB version. Any thoughts on the etymotic? |

ppffftt......folk music as a gauge for the extended bass version of these guys? brilliant..... | I want to revive/hijack this thread because I'm considering Ultimate Ears also. They have the Super Fi EB model (extended bass) and the Super Fi Pro. Here's a clip from UE's FAQ's:
5 Pro™ – Delivers professional studio quality sound by combining two precision balanced armatures in each earphone, one for lows and one for mids and highs. The dual armature technology provides exceptional frequency response and extended headroom delivering a rich, full-range, distortion-free personal audio experience.
5 EB™ – Delivers superior full-range sound with extended bass and excellent mid and high range response by combining two drivers in each earphone, one high output diaphragm for lows and one precision balanced armature for mids and highs.
Does anyone know what the difference in sound is between these?

They do no make it unnatural, and jamiroquai never sounded so good I Never had an issue witht eh length of the cable using the IEM rig. However, at the gym and what not I have fumbled with them cause the cable is a little short. But for their purpose, in ears, the cable is just right and I hate excess cables while playing. |

I will write a review as soon as I have them. Now I need some less expensive earphones to hear music through my mp3 player, kind of scare of bitting up the shures from every day use, still trying to decide between the etymtoic er6i or the vibes.
Thanks,... |

I almost went with the EB model but for $20 more I went with the pro. These things are 100 times better than my Shure E3's with the single driver. With the E3's I would get an overdriven buzz when I was playing. With the Super Fi's there is no buzzing even on the low B! The ear tips fit very nicely and cancel out a lot of outside noise. The cable coming out of the earpieces have a little metal piece in them that keeps the shape around the back of your ear.
Now I haven't tried Shure's E5's to make a comparison, but for $169 I'm betting the Super Fi's are just as good.
