Ultimatums: Childish or Necessary?

Ultimatums. We've all been given them, but is this something that we should be doing in a band setting? Whether it's over another player, compensations, gigs, musical input, dress code? Whatever.

What circumstances would best be settled by an ultimatum? If any. Let's hear some stories.

I think they make you seem unprofessional. If you don't like the situation, leave. But, if you going to make final demands, you had better quit if you don't get your way. Or you'll look like a push-over too.
