| | | | unwritten rules of playing bass?

This could sound insulting, it's not intended to be so please don't get your britches in a bunch here.
Prefacing completed, is there an unwritten rule that bass players are typically required to be the dorkiest, token goober members of a band?
Nirvana, Pantera, STP come to mind. Those guys seem to present themselves as complete goobers.
So I'm watching Rockstar Supernova (which most likely classifies me as a goober) and have given up on Jason Newsted. Cut his mic PLEASE! And that's without watching his facial expressions. Then there's the guy in the House Band, the various hoods, sunglasses, racoon eyes thingy etc....
I'm not throwing rocks here, I'd fear for hitting myself, this is simply an observation. I've got my fingers crossed the next drummer we try out shows up with a side part and pocket protector! |

In the four times I have seen Pantera, Rex never looked like a goober to me. I have absolutely no clue where you would get that idea.
So, how about Pete Steele, Tom Araya, Cliff Burton, Steve Harris, Geezer Butler, Cliff Williams, John Paul Jones, Lemmy, or Timmy C.? IMO, they are/were not the biggest goobers in their bands. |

What are these guys doing that makes you think they're goobers? I don't get it. I don't get how wearing a hoodie and sunglasses has anything to do with anything.
I'm not a huge fan of Metallica (anymore). I was a fan back in high school (around 1989); however, I like Jason. He's has an intensity about him. I enjoy watching him and listening to him. When I would go to Metallica concerts, Jason held my attention more than the rest of the band (and it's not because he's a bassist).
I guess I'm just not sure where you're coming from.

And stage presence of some kind is extremely vitally important. Disregard that at your peril! |

The rest need us.

I do not know how old you are, but let me help you in life. Whenever you think that everyone in a representitive group is exactly the same in a very negative manner, or are all stupid, you are the one who is missing something. Usually, you are missing the other 95 percent of the representitive group who are all so normal or so smart you do not even notice them.

. | Does he string his basses upside down? Seems like he has his high strings on top, as if he has a right neck on a lefty bass. |
