I would say pop it, clean it with alcohol and peroxide, apply some Neosporin, wrap it with loose gause for tonight, and then put a big band-aid before you play again tomorrow - take a deep breath and play.

I would say pop it asap, put nothing on it and don't cover it. you need the skin to toughen back up quickly, and covering it will aid in the healing process, but I don't think it will toughen the skin very quickley.
it would be painful, but pop the sucker and start playing right away |

please help | I know that you don't want to hear this, but the best thing to do is to take a break from playing and let it heal. Anything you do to "get by" may make it take longer to really heal. You DO NOT want to get it infected. |

I'd drain it by CLEAN pin prick...use isopropyl and wipe the pin down or soak it then pop the blister, let the skin dry underneath, and let the outer skin retighten. Don't cover it, put a light antiseptic ointment on it if there is pus (I'm curious if it's pus or just water?!?)
If you must play the next day, it WILL be sore, but apply a few coats of liquid bandage, or superglue if available (it WILL sting) and let dry thoroughly...the superglue has an antiseptic quality, tho not advisable to apply alll the time.

When you practice tomorrow it might hurt a little but I would suggest that you crank your amp a little more than usual so you don't have to dig in as hard. What ever you do don't play with duct tape on you fingers because the glue will get all in your strings and ruin them.
If you have to play double bass tomorrow do what you can to clean any rosin off of the strings as that will create even more friction.

Pop it. Cut away the loose skin. Let it dry out completely. Apply super glue to it to act as a new skin.
You'll be surprised how little you notice it. I've done this and it was almost like I never hurt it. I even had to play the same day and it works!!!
Important... let it dry out before applying the super glue. Put enough on so it's thick, but put it on in layers. Don't get the little tubes you find at most stores (unless that's all you can find). Go to a hobby store (one that sells radio controlled model planes). They'll have a thicker kind available there.
Remember that super glue was designed as a quick suture in MASH units during the Vietnam war. It was intended to close cuts!
Oh, and remember to bring the super glue to the gig, as it will probably crack/flake off as you play. As you well know, it dries quickly, so you can add more as needed.
Just one more thought...remember that it's VERY sticky and dries fast (did I mention it dries FAST?) so don't glue one finger to another or you'll create more problems.

Take it slowly and concentrate so you dont slip into habit and destroy your finger.
Its thanks to this situation that i discovered playing flamenco style playing. |
