USA to Canada Shipping?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an offer to do a trade with someone from Canada, and wondering how much the postage is from USA (Florida) to Ontario.
Of course I don't expect you to know the exact rate, but just wondering if you've done any US to Canada shipping and if it's expensive or not.
It's just a pedal, actually, but wondering anyhow.
Thanks.

S.

One set of used strings in a manila bubble envelope sent from Midwest last week to Canada was under $3.00 US. Anyone shipped a bass w/ case this way?

My advice is to use US Postal service. You can actually get an online quote for shipping from their website. Just find the box you will ship it in, measure it, weight the pedal and enter the postal code you are shipping it to.......

Doesn't sound too expensive.
Thanks.

With any shipperyou will have to fill out a customs declaration form designating the value of the item. Do not under inflate the value so the receiver saves money, your screwed if the package is lost and you have to file a claim, not to mention it's a federal crime. Low value (under $200) small package items are not to much hassle. More expensive larger items can be a real pain in the butt.

In my experience buying from the U.S. I have paid less in customs clearance fees when the seller used U.S. Postal Service to ship the item. Fed ex and UPS are thieves when it comes to customs clearing fees......

I can agree with that. On the down side, you lose packing tracking when a USPS package crosses the border. Not so for UPS, FedEX.

It will always be more than you think it should be! I sold a pedal to a fellow TBer in Canada recently. I shipped it through USPS and insured it for $125. It cost me $31.50 to ship it! I just about crapped myself!

USPS First class. I never had any problem with it, and received tons of package like that. Never use UPS for shipping to Canada, they have some ridiculous "brokerage fees" or something. Last time, I had to pay $60 for a $100 item.

Good point about the lack of tracking in Canada but with the prices UPS and Fedex charge?.....I'll take my chances that US Postal and Canada Post get it right....

The customs fee is usually nominal (around the rate of federal tax I believe plus the rate of duty if applicable). What UPS and FED EX do is charge you a flat rate to clear the item through customs. Basically provide one piece of paper to customs detailing what the item is and what is worth etc....It is the biggest scam out there in my opinion. What is the pedal worth and where was it made? I work for the federal govt (not in customs) but can let you know what your canuck can expect to pay once it arrives....

Well, I paid customs fees on one USPS package (on 100-120 received maybe ?) and I have never heard of someone not paying ridiculous fees with UPS. The USPS fees were way more reasonable too.

Yes! I purchased 6 DVDs from a US eBay seller. UPS added a flat rate of $150 Customs/Brokerage.
