Used bass, guitar, and amp - Sell online or sell to GC?

Sign in to disble this ad
Good day fellow TBers,

I'm planning to buy a car next so, so I am saving up right now, and I want to get rid of some gear that I never use.

I have a used Epiphone Les Paul, probably worth like $100 on eBay, and a Crate stack that's worth $200 or so. Should I sell those things online (forums, eBay, etc) or take them to GC and sell them? How can I get the most out of the gear? Will GC give me money or only store credits for trade-ins?

I have a used Aria Pro II Steve Bailey fretless 6 string, bought it here on TB, but since I haven't touched it in a year, I want to sell that one too. Same question, will I get more out of it by selling it to GC or putting it on the web?

Thanks all!

GC will give you peanuts. I think you'll get more for it by posting a thinly veiled For Sale ad in the Talkbass Miscellaneous forum.

Online. The difference you'll get between selling on TB and GC will be more than enough to pay for the Supporting Membership required to post the ad.

GC can be fair with trade ins depending on what you have. Take the stuff to the East Brunswick store and see what they say. Ebay is all well and good, but keep in mind you've got listing fees, paypal fees, etc. What you might want to try is Craigs List. I've sold several items on there and the transactions were perfect. Just watch out for the scammers. You're also a supporting member here so post here and on Craigs List. Both are free.

Sell online, unless you need the money really quick. Any music shop or secondhand shop will only give peanuts for it like baba said, because they will not get more than the market price for it and they want some margin as well. They don't do charity work...
