using a 5150 for bass...but...

Hello im new to the site. Love the knowledge that all u have. Im using my old 5150 for my bass amp since I switched from bass to guitar some years back and recently switched to my roots with bass. Love the distortion from this amp it suites my band well since there is no other members but a singer and drummer. The issue im having a problem with a clean signal not clipping when I slap its fine for a practice but when we play shows I think its gonna clip bad, any suggestions on limiters or compressors to save my cab (fender supersonic with vintage 30's, handles low end suprisingly well on bass) from being destroyed because the rig is fine for tapping and pick/pluckin just slap it just seems a little shakey especially on popping. Thanks guys and gals!!
