USPS SHIPPING Global Express Guaranteed Only

I am trying to get a quote from USPS and the website only give me the Global Express Guaranteed® (GXG)** choice that is freaking expensive. $ 250 for a bass from Michigan to Canada.

Do somebody knows if they are using this service only?

Its expensive because when the package leaves the US then FedEx takes over for the delivery instead of the other nations postal service. that is how the "guarantee" is offered.

Thanks, I quoted Fedex and it is way cheaper, I wonder who will use USPS for international shipping now, they used to be the cheapest option.

Regular Global Priority and Express is in most cases still cheaper but service to Canada was suspended due to their postal strike.

Something doesn't add up. I recently used the USPS online quote system to get an estimate to ship a bass to Russia. It came in around $85. I then took the bass to the post office and had them estimate it, and it again came in at $85.

UPS and FedEx were like 7-10 times higher than that!

EDIT: Here you go, from Oregon to Russia. Estimated 13 lbs, 51" x 4" x 15" (length + girth on my hypothetical package is 51 + 38 = 89 inches, comfortably under their 108 inch limit).

The strike ended a week and a half ago, and mail is moving normally. Regular service should be back on...

That is a different service the OP was asking about Global Express Guarantee. I think he got a quote during the strike when Express Mail International was not available to Canada due to the strike.
