At least Hagar plays guitar, instead of one live track (EVH) and a pre-recorded rhythm track(s); makes the show more "real" than with Roth.

I actually saw them with Cherone and was very impressed.
He could do the Hagar stuff dead on (something Roth couldn't do if his life depended on it) and sounded way better on the Roth stuff than Sammy ever did. Sammy can't swing like Roth and doesn't have the soul Roth has (plus "Jump" raised to the key of D?!? How wimpy was that?!?).

There's no doubt though,
VAN HALEN III blew massive chunks.

I'm seeing them Labor Day weekend in Biloxi. My best friend saw then in Greensboro, NC, first show of the tour, and said it was amazing. His girlfriend was able to get some good pictures and short videos, and it looks like it's going to be a GREAT show.
FWIW, I actually did like the Cherone-era Van Halen, too.
