Various Rush topics (was : Is Geddy going to a Carvin?)

Sign in to disble this ad
In this video from last Friday, Geddy and Alex are discussing songwriting and when they cut to Alex, there appears to be a very nice looking Carvin bass in the background kinda out-of-focus.

And did he say they have six songs that they love for the new CD already???

I doubt it highly. That just looks like a "set" with props they went to for an interview. 6 songs, oh yeah!!

Yes, and Neil Peart is going to be using a 5-piece drum set.

The headstock doesn't look like a Carvin to me. Maybe a Tobias??

If Geddy Lee was going to a Carvin, Carvin would be the first to tell you all about it. But yes, seriously I doubt he's ever going to play a Carvin bass.

Alex Lifeson used Carvin amps and had his own signature model guitars. BTW Marcus Miller used a Behringer Bass Vamp a couple of years ago. Remember "tools"

AHA! A Slingerland drum kit, Gibson guitars, a Gibson bass, a Tobias bass, and Epiphone amps all around - I wonder if Gibson is sponsoring the Songwriters Hall Of Fame somehow...? 'Cause that's all Gibson branded stuff back there...

I've been a Carvin user for many years and a huge Rush fan since the early 80's and I don't ever remember seeing Alex use Carvin.

Agreed. Les Pauls, ES335s, Strats, Teles, the ill-fated Signature brand (not a Carvin, but this is probably what Otis was thinking of), PRS CE24s and Singlecuts, and now back to Les Pauls again. But, I digress....

I think Geddy is on the ol' Jazz for good. He has stuck with that bass as an exclusive instrument longer than any other brand he was with.

A great interview for sure! Most of it didn't look like their gear, or at least gear you normally associate with them, but it did look like one of Alex's H&K heads.

Not her fault, but the production engineers. Audio wasn't de-essed properly.

haha! That's great! He might be using a 5 piece, for each limb! Peart is the only thing about Rush that annoys me. An overly mechanical drummer with too many things to bang on is a recipe for robotic playing....IMHO. I love Rush though...other than that anyway.

I agree. Maybe they were being paid in gear rather than money.
