Last Sunday, the drummer that I have been playing with 45+ Sundays a year for the last 9 years announced that he was leaving the church to find one closer to where he lives. He moved 45 minutes away almost 2 years ago and I knew this was coming, but I am really bummed out about this. He is the best drummer that I have ever played with, very much a Motown/jazz styled drummer that always played EXACTLY what the song called for, every time. His timing is so good that metronomes practice to him. I never had to think when playing with him, we just jelled perfectly and ALWAYS got complemented on our playing together.
Sorry for the rambling post, but I am really bummed out about this. I doubt that we will find another drummer that can touch him in ability, not to mention that I have known him for the better part of my life and we used to work on motorcycles together as well. A very sad day for me.

It's not as if 45 minutes away is far to go. Only one of my fellow musicians lives in my own city, most are that sort of distance away and several are further still.

lowsound | So do some playing out of church, maybe? I think all people are saying is that it seems odd to lament so sadly the end of all musical contact with the guy when he's only 45 minutes down the road.

I wish I could start up a band with him, but I just don't have the time. Maybe sometime in the future.

Hmmmmm? | I don't think the drive really plays much into it, he does it every day for work. The reason is that he feels he needs to be in a church that is local to him, not one that is 45 minutes away in a different town altogether. We are a very community minded church and he wants to be involved in his community. He is really looking forward to this change in life and I an happy for him, I am just going to miss working with such an amazing drummer.
